Racism Continues To Be A Concern For Asian Americans

They have organizations to fight for civil rights

The COVID pandemic brought more hate to the forefront.

Americans of Asian descent and immigrants from Asian countries have generally felt fairly comfortable and accepted in the United States for some years, but that was not always the case. The earliest Chinese and Japanese immigrants faced extreme racism and discrimination.

When racism and prejudice were rampant against the American citizens of Japanese heritage and their parents who were immigrants from Japan in the early part of the 1900s, young adult Japanese Americans decided they needed a national organization.

The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) was established in 1929.

They formed the JACL as a civil rights organization. They worked hard for civil rights and continue to do so today.

Chinese Americans also formed organizations as did other Asian American groups. They were concerned with equal rights.
